Good Job Square Enix

Congratulations on a job well done. I have to say it brought a smile to my face when I saw the news that SE were taking countermeasures against rmt. I am sure that you will continue to keep up the preasure on certain companies.

Having recently read through a few articles on the subject of RMT, I am amazed by the extent of it - but not terribly suprised. I have been playing MMO's for 3 or 4 years now and I have seen it become an increasing factor just to get an edge over other players.

Sometimes I wonder to myself, is it such a bad thing. Why shouldn't these people who have money to burn just spend crazy amounts on virtual items? Then I come to my senses and see how it affects the game.

Recently Play Online (ffxi) have introduced RMT counter-measures which basically means they have banned over 700 accounts, taking a massive 200 billion gil out of the economy.

The effects of this have already been felt. 2 weeks ago on the Bismarck server, the price of a Scorpion Harness was as high as 23 million gil. 3 days after these RMT counter-measures have been announced, you can buy one for 8 million and the price is still falling.

Where will the price crash stop? Has the measures stopped gilsellers for good? Will the economy ever be fully stable again? If PO can do it why can't other companies?

So many questions, and I believe we could have to wait a long while for the answers...
