My take on the state of the FFXI economy.

Who do I believe has created those high prices. The players themself has created them. And the biggest factor is those players greed. I believe that sometime soon the economy on some servers are going to crash. Because I think that more and more people are going to stop paying those higher prices. Either because they want to cash in themself, by going into business. Or try farming more and more of their own crafting needs for example. Because I belive that most players doesnt use their own power to control prices. Especially in a game where people pay hefty AH fees. Getting items sent in return sucks. And if this started to happen more often. I belive that those trying to rise the prices would think tvice about doing it. If this happened on a large enough scale. The prices would drop all over as a result of less gil beeing in circulation.

Now I dont have a problem with people making a profit, but I dont think its healthy for the economy to just rise and rise. I think that players overall needs to sit down and think for a while about what they are doing.

If you want to make a change. I have a few suggestions.
One thing you can do is try and gather some crafters. And agree not to jack up the prices when you sell stuff. You might even try and lower the prices just a little bit. Try not to be to dependent on buying your crafting items. I believe that if most crafters would farm at least half their crafting needs. The economy would change.

Remember this. If you dont like the high prices. Dont pay them. Its as simple as that. Nothing bad is going to happen to you if you farm your stuff or wait until there is a bigger supply on the AH. Remember the buyers have alot of power, use it.

Having recently read through a few articles on the subject of RMT, I am amazed by the extent of it - but not terribly suprised. I have been playing MMO's for 3 or 4 years now and I have seen it become an increasing factor just to get an edge over other players.

Sometimes I wonder to myself, is it such a bad thing. Why shouldn't these people who have money to burn just spend crazy amounts on virtual items? Then I come to my senses and see how it affects the game.

Recently Play Online (ffxi) have introduced RMT counter-measures which basically means they have banned over 700 accounts, taking a massive 200 billion gil out of the economy.

The effects of this have already been felt. 2 weeks ago on the Bismarck server, the price of a Scorpion Harness was as high as 23 million gil. 3 days after these RMT counter-measures have been announced, you can buy one for 8 million and the price is still falling.

Where will the price crash stop? Has the measures stopped gilsellers for good? Will the economy ever be fully stable again? If PO can do it why can't other companies?

So many questions, and I believe we could have to wait a long while for the answers...
